frequently asked questions - edit your life with Julie Golden.jpg

+ What can I expect at the first session?

Our first session, as with all sessions, will be friendly and relaxed, yet professional. I will use this session to introduce myself and you will have the opportunity to outline the main reason you have sought assistance. Together we will carry out an Initial assessment of your circumstances and the type of approach best suited to your needs. Research indicates that the working partnership (therapeutic working alliance) accounts for 30% of a successful outcome. The first session will allow us to consider how well we can work together.

+ What if I don’t like the therapist?

Evidence suggests that the relationship between the therapist and client accounts for 30% of the overall success of therapy outcomes. Therefore, how the therapist and client collaborate is crucial to a favourable result. If the therapist reminds you of someone negative in your life or for any reason you don’t feel comfortable inform your therapist immediately. Together you can work through this difficulty and if necessary, the therapist will help with a referral to an alternative professional.

+ Is the service confidential?

EDIT offers the client a confidential service. No information will be disclosed without prior permission from the client. However, by law there are exceptions:

Limits to Confidentiality

  • If the client intends to seriously harm another person.

  • If the client intends to harm him or herself.

  • If the client discloses information regarding suspected child abuse.

+ What happens between sessions?

The effectiveness of the entire consultation process revolves around active participation by the client. When this is achieved the most desirable and successful outcomes are reached in a swift and effective timeline. Clients are sometimes asked to maintain logs, track behaviours, complete worksheets between sessions. This facilitates the process of what has been discussed during the session and serves to integrate the outcomes of the consultation process into life.

You may feel emotional, drained or excited directly following a session. Therefore, if possible, it’s best to schedule some downtime immediately after the session.
